Yesterday, June 26, was 14 days out from when we fly to Haiti. We continue to work toward getting all our paperwork in order and sell the majority of our belongings. We’re on our way to selling our condo and will start notifying our different utility services this next week of our closing date. All that to say, it’s starting to become real. In the midst of these steps toward moving, we are continually reminded of God’s provisions. Yesterday was a great glaring example of that.
I was on the American Airlines website double checking on items that are not allowed in checked baggage. At this point I don’t remember exactly what I saw; a link or a tab or just a quick phrase about checked bag limitations on flights going to the Caribbean. Seeing as our checked bags are our main livelihood I decided I better check out these limitations. What I read next was a game changer.
“American Airlines and American Eagle will implement limitations on checked baggage and boxes for all southbound flights June 15, 2013 – August 31, 2013. For the destinations identified below, boxes and excess, overweight (more than 70lbs/32kgs.), or oversized pieces will not be accepted for transportation.”
Port-au-Prince, Haiti was listed as one of the destinations. Of the six pieces of luggage we are allowed to check, we planned to use, and had already bought, three footlockers that fit within airline standards (unless you are flying to Haiti). Here’s the scenario: if I hadn’t seen that little blip about bag limitations to the Caribbean, we would have shown up to the airport at 4:00 am July 10 with our three footlockers. And we would have been told at that ungodly time of the morning that we would not be able to check three of our six bags. Can you imagine?! God’s provisions for us continue to amaze me. They shouldn’t, I know. He has always been faithful and has never given me a reason to doubt Him. But seriously! Providing a “blip” on the page I was looking at so that we wouldn’t be dumbfounded at 4:00 in the morning? Who does that?? My Father, that’s who.
Cool! Cool! Cool! Your closing question and answer says it all!
